Policy for Content Contributors
Welcome to The Pioneer Woman team! As a regular contributor to this site, we ask that you review and sign our policy regarding copyright and fair use.
What is copyright? It’s a federal law of the United States protecting original works of authorship for a limited time. It gives the creator of the original work exclusive rights to it for financial benefit.
What is fair use? Fair use is an exception to the exclusive rights granted by copyright. It allows you to use copyrighted materials without permission or payment under certain conditions. Those conditions generally consist of small amounts of copying; the advancement of ideas, education, information, and knowledge; and all intellectual property.
Copyrights are exclusive, except in these four circumstances:
- The work consists of government information.
- The work is not original.
- The copyright has expired.
- The work is covered by fair use.
What does this mean for you?
- You should, to the best of your ability, create your own content for this site. That means, taking your own photographs and developing your own artwork.
- In cases where you cannot create your own artwork, purchase the rights to an image through stock content or use an image with a Creative Commons license, which allows others to reproduce and distribute the work at no cost, provided the owner is credited for the original.
- If you are uncertain if the image is available for redistribution, contact the owner for permission.
We want to make sure your work is free of copyright infringement, so we ask that you sign your initials next to each tenet of our policy.
- By posting content to this blog, you warrant and represent that you either own or otherwise control all of the rights to that content, including, without limitation, all the rights necessary for you to provide, post, upload, input, or submit the content, or that your use of the content is protected fair use.
- You agree you will not knowingly and with intent to defraud provide material and misleading false information.
- You will indemnify and hold this blog harmless for any and all claims resulting from content you supply.
To thank you for your acceptance of our policy, we promise you a few things:
- ThePioneerWoman.com does not share personal information with third-parties nor does it store information collected about your submissions or your visits for use other than to analyze content performance through the use of cookies, which you can turn off at anytime by modifying your Internet browser’s settings.
- We employ a team of quality lawyers to assess our performance in accordance with copyright and fair use laws. We reserve the right to update this policy in agreement with their recommendations at any time to better protect our contributors and us.
- We abide to the best of our ability by copyright laws.
